Jessica Gilby-Todd

Jessica is a barrister specialising in civil disputes. Known for her strong advocacy and practical approach, she is committed to achieving the best outcomes for clients while minimising the stress and uncertainty that litigation can bring.

With broad experience in civil litigation, Jessica’s practice has a primary focus on disputes involving deceased estates and family trusts. She has appeared in several complex coronial inquests and has a particular interest in helping whānau and interested parties navigate the coronial system during what is often a very difficult time.

Having appeared in the Courts and Tribunals at all levels, Jessica also negotiates successful outcomes for clients using alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.

Jessica has worked in large and medium-sized firms in New Zealand and Western Australia and was Senior Associate in a prominent Hamilton firm before joining Christopher Gudsell KC as an employed barrister in early 2023. Jessica established her practice as a Barrister Sole in 2026.

Jessica is Deputy Convenor of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Standards Committee No.2, assessing complaints made against lawyers.
